MY TRIBUTE TO A DEAR FRIEND

Ivor you were a good man---one of God's men. You demonstrated in your life Christian qualities such as compassion, care & courtesy. The genuine interest in others you always demonstrated drew people and we were comforted by this personal caring human touch.

The last e-mail message I sent to Margaret & you included this quotation which summarises the sweet influence of the Petrie family.

"Many people walk through our lives, but only a few leave footprints in our hearts"

The Seventh-day Church greatly appreciated the many years of faithful and efficient service Margaret and you so unselfishly gave. When Ruth & I worked with you in Africa we noted the high esteem with which you were both held by the nationals & expatriates. This outstanding service was also given in many different roles in the South Pacific.

Today as we say farewell to a Christian gentleman, whom we were privileged to call friend, loved one, husband, father, grandfather, relative, neighbour or boss, we pay deep tribute. You were an inspiration and wonderful example to us.

Ivor, we look forward to seeing you beyond the sunsets of this life, when the trumpet of the Lord will sound the beginning of eternity.
